Peace is an extension of war by political means. Plenty of elbow room is pleasanter — and much safer.

Mission and Philosophy

My way of doing business

My goal in any business deal is a triple win: I want to make enough money to keep growing trees. You want to get quality trees at a good price. We both want trees that will grow well in their new home.

Some would say I don't have good business instincts. I'm too naive. Too trusting. They're right. I'm a throwback to when much business was done on a hand shake. Both sides felt honour-bound to do the best that they could to meet the agreement. If something happened, both sides agreed on principle to split the hassle. We are in an industry that depends on the whims of nature, and we are dealing with living things. I do the best I can. If I make a mistake, I'll try to make it good.

I've found that when I deal with trust, people trust me. When I trust people, they seldom let me down. I do ask that agreements be in writing. That way the terms aren't subject to lapses of frail memory.

I'm probably a sucker. Better that than to live in a fog of suspicion and intrigue, trying to stick it to the other guy first.
